Runway Aleph 2.0 cost per edit
What Runway’s Aleph 2.0 video editor really costs: credits per second, the 56-credit minimum, the 30-second cap, what a 5s to 60s edit costs with retries on every plan and the API — and how it compares with Gen-4 Aleph and Gen-4.5.

Quick answer
Aleph 2.0 costs 28 credits per second of video you edit — 140 credits per 5 seconds, with a 56-credit minimum per generation, and it edits clips of 2 to 30 seconds. On Standard annual credits ($0.0192 each) a 10-second edit is $5.38 and a 30-second edit is $16.13 per attempt. Count 2 retries and a usable 30-second edit is 2,520 credits, or $48.38 — four times Standard’s 625 monthly credits, which cover only about 22 seconds of Aleph 2.0 a month. Cheapest per credit is Max annual ($6.72 per 30s try); purchased credits and the API both work out at $0.01 per credit, so $0.28 per second ($8.40 per 30s).
Basis: verified Oct 18, 2026 on Runway’s own pages: runway.com/pricing (plan prices and credits, Aleph 2.0 140 credits/5s, yearly video counts), the Runway Academy credits page (Aleph 2.0 28/sec, Gen-4 Aleph 15/sec), the help article Creating with Edit Studio (2–30s input, 56-credit minimum, ranged edits, keyframe-image costs, ProRes add-on) and Runway API pricing (28 credits/sec, 56-credit minimum, $0.01 API credits, output-format surcharges). Same numbers as our calculator (Runway → Aleph 2.0). “Usable” = 1 try + 2 retries (3 attempts). Cost only — no quality ranking.

Aleph 2.0 runs inside Runway’s Edit Studio app: you pick a keyframe, describe the change (swap a product, relight, restyle, remove an object) and Aleph applies it across the clip. Whether Aleph 2.0 is available on the Free plan was not stated on the pages above — Runway’s pricing table only counts Aleph 2.0 videos for Standard, Pro and Max, so check in-app.
Cost per edit: 2s to 60s, try vs usable
Standard annual credit value ($0.0192/credit) and Runway API ($0.01/credit). “Usable” = 3 attempts.
| Edit length | Credits per try | Try (Standard) | Credits usable | Usable (Standard) | Try (API) | Usable (API) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2s (minimum charge) | 56 | $1.08 | 168 | $3.23 | $0.56 | $1.68 |
| 5s | 140 | $2.69 | 420 | $8.06 | $1.40 | $4.20 |
| 10s | 280 | $5.38 | 840 | $16.13 | $2.80 | $8.40 |
| 15s | 420 | $8.06 | 1,260 | $24.19 | $4.20 | $12.60 |
| 30s (longest single edit) | 840 | $16.13 | 2,520 | $48.38 | $8.40 | $25.20 |
| 60s (two 30s edits) | 1,680 | $32.26 | 5,040 | $96.77 | $16.80 | $50.40 |
Maths: 28 credits/sec × seconds × attempts × $ per credit, with each generation at least 56 credits. Example: 30s = 28 × 30 = 840 credits × $0.0192 = $16.13; with 2 retries 2,520 credits = $48.38. A 60s video is two 30s edits (Aleph’s cap), so 1,680 credits per pass. Usable rows above Standard’s 625 credits are an effective cost at the plan rate, not cash Standard alone covers — you would need purchased credits ($10 per 1,000) or a bigger plan. Keyframe images and ProRes output are extra.
The same edit on every plan
| Credit source | $ per credit | 5s try | 10s try | 30s try | 30s usable |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard annual | $0.0192 | $2.69 | $5.38 | $16.13 | $48.38 |
| Standard monthly | $0.0240 | $3.36 | $6.72 | $20.16 | $60.48 |
| Pro annual | $0.0124 | $1.74 | $3.48 | $10.45 | $31.36 |
| Pro monthly | $0.0156 | $2.18 | $4.36 | $13.07 | $39.20 |
| Max annual | $0.0080 | $1.12 | $2.24 | $6.72 | $20.16 |
| Max monthly | $0.0100 | $1.40 | $2.80 | $8.40 | $25.20 |
| Purchased credits | $0.0100 | $1.40 | $2.80 | $8.40 | $25.20 |
| Runway API | $0.0100 | $1.40 | $2.80 | $8.40 | $25.20 |
$ per credit = plan price ÷ monthly credits (Standard $15 monthly / $12 annual, 625; Pro $35 / $28, 2,250; Max $95 / $76, 9,500), assuming you use them all. Purchased credits are $10 per 1,000 (minimum 1,000, paid plans only, never expire). Runway API credits are $0.01 each and are a separate balance from app credits. Standard and Pro monthly credits reset on the billing date; Max rolls up to one month over.
How much Aleph 2.0 each plan buys
| Credits | Seconds of Aleph 2.0 | 5s edits | 10s edits | Usable 10s edits (3 tries) | Usable 30s edits (3 tries) | 5s videos / year (Runway’s figure) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard (625/mo) | 22s | 4 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 53 |
| Pro (2,250/mo) | 80s | 16 | 8 | 2 | 0 | 192 |
| Max (9,500/mo) | 339s | 67 | 33 | 11 | 3 | 814 |
| 1,000 purchased credits ($10) | 35s | 7 | 3 | 1 | 0 | — |
The honest reading: Standard is a taste of Aleph 2.0, not a workflow. 625 credits make four 5-second edits or two 10-second edits a month, and not one full 30-second edit (840 credits). Pro (2,250) fits two full 30-second attempts or two usable 10-second edits. Only Max (9,500) fits three usable 30-second edits a month. Runway’s own pricing page agrees on the yearly view: 53 five-second Aleph 2.0 videos a year on Standard, 192 on Pro and 814 on Max.
Seconds and edit counts rounded down; single-try counts assume no retries. Runway’s yearly figures are 12 months of credits (7,500 / 27,000 / 114,000) ÷ 140.
Aleph 2.0 vs Gen-4 Aleph vs Gen-4.5
| Model | What it does | Credits / sec | 10s try | 30s try | 30s usable | Standard covers | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aleph 2.0 | Edit an existing video (video-to-video) | 28 | $5.38 | $16.13 | $48.38 | 22s | 2–30s input, 56-credit minimum |
| Gen-4 Aleph (previous) | Edit an existing video (video-to-video) | 15 | $2.88 | $8.64 | $25.92 | 41s | Still listed on the Academy page |
| Gen-4.5 | Generate new video (text/image to video) | 12 | $2.30 | $6.91 | $20.74 | 52s | 2–10s per generation |
| Gen-4 Turbo | Generate new video (image to video, budget) | 5 | $0.96 | $2.88 | $8.64 | 125s | 5s or 10s per generation |
Aleph 2.0 burns 2.3× the credits of Gen-4.5 per second and nearly twice Gen-4 Aleph. That changes the edit-or-regenerate maths: one 30-second Aleph 2.0 attempt ($16.13) costs about the same as 2.3 Gen-4.5 attempts ($6.91 each), and less than a usable Gen-4.5 clip with 2 retries ($20.74). If you already have a good take and only need a change, editing can be the cheaper route; if the shot itself is wrong, generating is cheaper per second. Standard annual credit value throughout; Standard-covers column is 625 credits ÷ rate.
Gen-4 Aleph (15/sec) is the previous editing model, still listed on the Runway Academy credits page on Oct 18, 2026. Gen-4.5 and Gen-4 Turbo rates are from Runway’s help docs and Academy page (verified Oct 17, re-checked Oct 18, 2026). Runway’s pricing page quotes 104s of Gen-4 Turbo for Standard (about 6/sec); the model docs say 5/sec, which we use. Full model list: Runway credits explained.
Aleph 2.0 on the Runway API
On the developer API, credits are $0.01 each, so Aleph 2.0 is $0.28 per second of video with a $0.56 minimum per generation: $2.80 for a 10-second edit and $8.40 for 30 seconds ($25.20 with 2 retries). That is the same $0.01 per credit as purchased app credits or Max monthly; only Max annual ($0.0080 per credit) is cheaper. Output-format surcharges apply on top: ProRes or PNG sequence +5 credits/sec (+$0.05), 10-bit or HDR profiles +20 credits/sec (+$0.20), or +40/sec when the output is larger than about 4K. API credits are bought in the developer portal and cannot pay for app generations, or vice versa.
Six ways to spend fewer credits on Aleph 2.0
- Edit a range, not the whole clip. A ranged edit only bills the selected portion: 8 seconds of a 30-second clip is 224 credits ($4.30) instead of 840 ($16.13).
- Preview the keyframe first. A keyframe image costs 5–20 credits; a 5-second video edit costs 140. Get the still right before you click Generate video.
- Test short. The 56-credit minimum means a 2-second test costs $1.08 on Standard annual — far less than finding out on a 30-second pass.
- Budget for retries. Every attempt is billed. At 2 retries, a 30-second edit is 2,520 credits — more than Pro’s 2,250 monthly credits.
- Use it or lose it. Standard and Pro credits reset on your billing date; purchased credits ($10 per 1,000) never expire and are cheaper per credit than Standard.
- Skip ProRes unless you need it. ProRes/PNG output adds 5 credits/sec — 150 more credits on a 30-second edit.

How many Aleph 2.0 edits do I get on the Runway Standard plan?
Standard's 625 monthly credits cover about 22 seconds of Aleph 2.0: four 5-second edits or two 10-second edits a month, and not one full 30-second edit (840 credits). Runway's own pricing page counts 53 five-second Aleph 2.0 videos a year on Standard, 192 on Pro and 814 on Max.
What is the longest video Aleph 2.0 can edit, and what is the minimum charge?
Runway's Edit Studio help article lists a 2-second minimum and 30-second maximum input video (longer uploads are trimmed), up to 1080p. Every generation costs at least 56 credits ($1.08 on Standard annual). A 60-second video means two 30-second edits: 1,680 credits, or $32.26 per attempt.
Is Aleph 2.0 more expensive than Gen-4 Aleph or Gen-4.5?
Yes, per second. Aleph 2.0 is 28 credits per second, Gen-4 Aleph (the previous version) 15 and Gen-4.5 generation 12. On Standard annual credits a 30-second attempt costs $16.13 with Aleph 2.0, $8.64 with Gen-4 Aleph and $6.91 with Gen-4.5. One Aleph 2.0 attempt costs about as much as 2.3 Gen-4.5 attempts of the same length.
How much does Aleph 2.0 cost on the Runway API?
Runway API credits cost $0.01 each, so Aleph 2.0 is $0.28 per second of video ($2.80 for 10 seconds, $8.40 for 30 seconds) with a $0.56 minimum per generation. ProRes or PNG-sequence output adds 5 credits per second and 10-bit or HDR output 20 credits per second. API credits are a separate balance from Runway app credits.
Does editing only part of a video cost less?
Yes. Runway's help article says a ranged edit only uses credits for the selected portion, not the full clip. Editing 8 seconds of a 30-second clip is 224 credits ($4.30 on Standard annual) instead of 840. Keyframe images made inside Edit Studio cost extra: 8 credits with Gen-4 Image, 5 with GPT Image 2 or 20 with Nano Banana Pro.
