Luma cost: what Ray3.2 really costs per usable clip on Dream Machine plans and the Luma API
Every Ray3.2 price Luma publishes, turned into dollars per second and per 10s to 60s clip with retries — on plan credits, top-ups and the pay-as-you-go API.

Quick answer
On Luma’s Plus plan billed annually a credit costs $0.0025, so a usable 30-second Ray3.2 clip (3 attempts, built from 5-second generations) costs $2.25 at 540p, $4.50 at 720p and $18.00 at 1080p. The cheapest is Ray3.2 at 540p: 50 credits per 5 seconds, $0.75 per 30-second try, $2.25 usable — tied for #2 of all 210 rates we rank, with MiniMax H3-Lite 480P and Wan 2.6 Flash 720p without audio, behind only Grok Imagine 1.5 Lite 480p — and the cheapest subscription (plan-credit) rate we rank, below Kling 2.6 Standard mode ($2.70). 720p ranks #22= and 1080p #126=. The pay-as-you-go Luma API is 20% dearer ($2.70 / $5.40 / $21.60; #5=, #31=, #136=). Trap: a 10-second generation costs 3× the 5-second price, so build long videos from 5s clips. Ray3.2 has no audio.
New Nov 2, 2026 (9am): Luma Ray3.2 is now in ClipCost’s verified data and rankings — 3 Dream Machine plan rates and 3 Luma API rates (replacing our old bucket estimates), from Luma’s official pricing page, API page and API docs. That re-ranked every rate from $2.25 up (e.g. Kling 2.6 Standard mode moved from #4= to #5=). Flags: the pricing table says 10s = 3× 5s, but the API FAQ and a December 2025 help article describe 10s as two 5s blocks; the table header also says “No keyframes: plus 30 credits” without explaining it; Luma’s API docs say video rates may change “ahead of GA”.
Basis: usable = 3 attempts (1 + 2 retries), as in our calculator. Per-second rate = the 5-second SDR price ÷ 5, because 5s pieces are the cheapest way to fill any length (10s generations cost 3× and Extend bills 5s blocks). Plan credit = Plus billed annually ($300/yr for 10,000 credits a month = $0.0025), the entry paid plan. Rank = position among the 210 verified usable-30s rates in our verified data (ties share a rank). Cost only — no quality ranking.

Every length is built from 5-second generations (or 5s extends) at the 5s price. Max single generation is 10 seconds, so a 60s video is at least twelve 5s pieces or six 10s pieces.
The 10-second trap: 5s pieces vs 10s generations
| Ray3.2 SDR | Credits / 5s | Credits / 10s | $ per 5s / 10s (Plus annual) | 30s from six 5s gens | 30s from three 10s gens | API: 30s from 5s vs 10s |

From the Luma pricing table (10s = 3× 5s) and Luma API pricing table ($0.45 / $0.90 / $3.60 per 10s). Luma’s API FAQ says the API “bills per 5-second block (10s = two blocks)” and its Dream Machine credit system article (Dec 15, 2025) says 10s = 2× 5s — if that applies to you, 10s costs the same per second as 5s. Check the quote before you generate.

How Luma compares
- Budget tier: Luma 540p ($2.25) ties MiniMax H3-Lite 480P ($2.25) and Wan 2.6 Flash 720p without audio ($2.25) for #2; only Grok Imagine 1.5 Lite 480p ($1.80, #1, with audio) is cheaper. Luma’s API 540p ($2.70) ties LTX-2.3 Fast 720p with audio, Veo 3.1 Lite 720p without audio and Kling 2.6 Standard (all $2.70, #5=).
- 720p: Luma $4.50 (plan) / $5.40 (API) vs Vidu Q3 Turbo 540p $3.15, Wan 3.0 on Pika $5.28, Kling 3.0 720p without audio $5.40 and Runway Gen-4 Turbo $8.64 (#58=).
- 1080p: Luma $18.00 (plan) / $21.60 (API) is 4× its 720p price — dearer than Veo 3.1 Lite 1080p without audio ($4.50), LTX-2.3 Fast 1080p with audio ($5.40), Kling 3.0 1080p ($7.20) or MiniMax H3 768P ($7.20), but cheaper than Runway Gen-4.5 ($20.74).

Which to pick (on cost)
- Cheapest Luma: Ray3.2 540p on a paid plan ($2.25 per usable 30s) — draft at 360p (20 credits per 5s) first if you iterate a lot.
- Always generate 5s pieces unless you need one continuous 10s take: 10s costs 50% more per second.
- Plan vs API: buy Plus annual (or Pro/Ultra for heavy use) if you’ll use the credits; use the API for occasional or programmatic jobs with no subscription ($5.40 vs $4.50 per usable 720p 30s).
- Need 1080p? Luma’s 1080p is 4× its 720p — compare upscaling a 720p keeper (Luma upscale to 1080p is 10 credits/sec) with Kling or Veo 1080p.
- Need audio? Pick a partner model inside Luma (Seedance Mini 480p $2.70 usable is the cheapest ranked) — Luma partner models cost.

FAQ
How much does Luma cost per second?
Luma prices Ray3.2 per 5- or 10-second generation, not per second. At the 5-second price on the Plus plan billed annually ($300 a year for 10,000 credits a month, $0.0025 per credit, checked Nov 2, 2026) that's $0.025 per second at 540p (50 credits per 5s), $0.05 at 720p (100) and $0.20 at 1080p (400). Luma's API charges $0.03, $0.06 and $0.24 per second ($0.15, $0.30 and $1.20 per 5s). Monthly billing costs 20% more per credit ($0.003).
How much does a 30-second Luma video cost?
Built from six 5-second Ray3.2 generations, one 30-second try costs $0.75 at 540p, $1.50 at 720p and $6.00 at 1080p on Plus annual credits. With 2 retries (3 attempts) a usable 30-second clip is $2.25, $4.50 and $18.00. On the API the same usable clips cost $2.70, $5.40 and $21.60. Luma 540p on the plan ties for #2 of the 210 rates ClipCost ranks.
Why does a 10-second Luma clip cost more than two 5-second clips?
Luma's pricing page lists 10-second Ray3.2 generations at 3 times the 5-second price (720p: 100 credits for 5s, 300 for 10s), so per second a 10s generation costs 50% more. A 30-second 720p video is 600 credits from 5s pieces but 900 from 10s pieces. Luma's API FAQ and a December 2025 help article describe 10s as two 5s blocks instead, which contradicts the current table; check the in-app quote before generating 10s clips.
Is the Luma API cheaper than a Dream Machine plan?
No, the plan is cheaper if you use your credits: Plus annual works out to $0.0025 per credit, the API to $0.003 ($0.15 per 5s at 540p = 50 credits). A usable 720p 30-second clip is $4.50 on Plus annual vs $5.40 on the API. The API has no subscription or minimum, and Pro/Ultra annual credits are cheaper still ($0.001875 and $0.001667).
Is Luma cheaper than Runway, Kling or Pika?
At 540p, yes: $2.25 per usable 30-second clip ties MiniMax H3-Lite 480P and silent Wan 2.6 Flash 720p for #2, behind only Grok Imagine 1.5 Lite 480p ($1.80). At 720p Luma is $4.50, vs $2.70 for Kling 2.6 Standard, $5.28 for Wan 3.0 on Pika and $8.64 for Runway Gen-4 Turbo. At 1080p it's $18.00, dearer than Kling 3.0 1080p ($7.20) or Veo 3.1 Lite 1080p without audio ($4.50). Ray3.2 has no audio. ClipCost compares cost only, not quality.
Does Luma have a free plan or audio?
Luma's pricing page (checked Nov 2, 2026) lists no free plan: Plus ($30/mo, $25/mo annual), Pro and Ultra, plus Team and Enterprise on request; Plus lists commercial use. Ray3.2 generates silent video (the audio column is empty); models with audio inside Luma, such as Seedance, Kling, Veo 3.1 and MiniMax H3, cost more credits per second.
